Student Agency Can't Be Automated

  • Students should interrogate AI outputs, not just accept them. Students are capable of challenging algorithmic suggestions in ways that surprise their teachers. Critical thinking develops through questioning, not compliance.

  • Learning happens between people, not through screens. I've seen how authentic connections between teachers and students create conditions where minds change.

  • Students need ownership of their learning journey. When we hand intellectual tasks to machines, we rob kids of the struggle that builds cognitive muscle. Real education is uncomfortable and uncertain.

The greatest protection against algorithmic thinking is strengthening our capacities for critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and creative expression. No machine, however sophisticated, can ever truly replicate human capacity.
